On 29 August 2023, prop announced that he had “just got a genius idea” 1, and a brainstorm for the next ASMP Earth mega build followed, with IRIS. The result became the Research Center / Floating Islands project in Antarctica.
The plan was floating islands above a research station, with a giant cherry tree overgrowing the complex. prop drew the tree over the base to show how big it would be, and marked the canopy so the islands wouldn’t hide it.
The group also wanted a story. IRIS’s version was that a small island “became unaffected by gravity due to a failure in reseach experiment” 2, and then, more precisely, that “small pieces of antarctica broke due to tectonic plates movement” 3. A diagram of icebergs breaking off and floating up justified the lore. IRIS supplied cherry-island references and compared one complex to Valorant’s Ascent.
By the end, the plan was settled enough for prop to wave off the last objections with “no no thats fine” 4.
