Planes Arrive on ASMP Earth

Crossing continents by boat was too slow, so prop polled for and added the Immersive Aircraft mod, and made passive mobs spawn more than four times as often.

Event ASMP Earth 27 Jun 2023

ASMP Earth was a map of the real world, which made one problem obvious: getting from one continent to another was miserable. On 27 June 2023 prop complained that “transportation accross continents is a hazzle” and that he did not think villages even existed on the map 1. His poll asked whether to borrow the idea of planes from the SMP Earth series on YouTube, since boats were “extremely inneffecient” 2.

He did not wait for the poll to close. Asking out loud whether he should “just add plane mod and be done with it” 3, he added the Immersive Aircraft mod the same day, “directly to avoid the possibility of me forgetting for 3 days and it never being added”, plus Just Enough Items so everyone could see the recipes 4. The planes burn furnace fuel.

A follow-up patch the same day tackled the other problem. With no natural passive mobs, prop added a mod and raised the mob cap and spawn percentage by more than four times, and renamed #screenshots to #asmp-earth-international-news “for comedic reasons” 5.

Planes took over transport so completely that by August prop was polling whether to disable elytra, then nullified that poll once elytra had already been obtained. The planes mod stayed 6. See also Four Players Beat the Dragon Together.
