Gladiator Arena

A colossal Colosseum-style PvP arena planned for diamond-wager fights; it was never finished, but its idea launched a wave of farms.

In October 2021 the Season 1 crew set out to build a PvP arena for diamond-wager fights. Suresh (BotFragx on Discord) floated the idea, and on 12 October he said he was “thinking of building the Pvp arena”. 1 The design came from a litematica schematic of a gladiator arena, a Colosseum of smooth stone, polished andesite, smooth sandstone and red wool, with iron bars and magma blocks. 2 The shopping list: about 2164 red wool, 550 iron bars and magma blocks for decoration. 3

The group quickly realised how big this was. prop said the arena was bigger than the whole mountainous biome and that it would be “the biggest most awesome build in the server till date”, and the stone needed alone came to some 20k blocks. 4 5 Sites were scouted, with one near abi’s base on the plains chosen around 19 October, and the call went out: “lets start on arena”. 6

What it really built

The arena never rose. Kart wrote “forget this” on 29 October, just after the 27 October griefing. 7 Meanwhile, prop was open about the real effect: “im using arena as a excuse to build many farms lmao”. 8 The super smelter and stone generator were built after the arena idea, and BotFragx pointed out that “else no one would have built arena or even thought of building one”. 9

Suresh was left with hours of gathered resources, which were lost in the wipe, a loss kira brought up on 7 November. 10 For the planning side of the story, see The Gladiator Arena Project.
