kira Hosts Create Together

In June 2021 kira put the Create Together modpack on an Ubuntu box, the group's first legit 24/7 server, and wired up a bot to post the IP.

prop wanted to play the Create Together modpack “as a long standing thing”, but lacked the hardware to host it. On 2021-06-14 he had tried running a Forge 1.16.5 server 24/7 from it. 1 2 On 2021-06-18 kira stepped in: he cleared an SSD, checked “ubuntu 20.04 is ok?” and later reported “ok box has been setup”. 3

Prop’s announcement the same day was titled “New Server Host and New Season”. It thanked kira’s Ubuntu box, called it the first legit 24/7 server, and thanked nYx for hosting the first three seasons with the Retired Server Host role. 4 Kira’s “Server is officially online!” followed that afternoon, with the mods channel and a new way to get the IP: send .ip. 5

That command was a small piece of cheating. Too lazy to write a new bot, kira reused the staging copy of his BoomerBob bot, StonerBob / the Axolotl Bot, so the embed first showed an old “Kelp SMP” entry before being corrected to “Potato SMP”. 6 7 He set the server to restart on a crash and declared “ok nice bot is 24/7 now”. 8

This was the first time kira hosted for the group, and Create Together was the world it began.
