January 2022 was a rough month for Season 1. On 18 January kira told the community that the server was down because his ISP was having an “unplanned outage”. 1 On 20 January prop was reporting “server down” again, this time after a power cut. 2
The cause of the long gap came out the same day: “there was demolition nearby, those mfer broke the box”. 3 A nearby building had been demolished and taken the router box with it, as Levi confirmed the next day. 4 Levi finally pinged everyone on 26 January that “our wifi is back and server is back up”. 5
The trouble was not over. The new connection was on Jio, and kira explained that port forwarding was impossible because “multiple sets of routers on jios network have same ipv4 address”. 6 Prop asked whether the server would go premium-only or was “done for good”. On 27 January kira switched to a tunnelling service, which gave the server a fixed address at a price: about +300 ms of ping, plus the loss of voice chat and direct backup access. 7 Players such as Kart saw their pings climb far higher still.
The slow, laggy aftermath is told in The Jio Lag Crisis. By 26 February kira was back on Airtel, to prop’s delight.
