Server Down for Mod Updates

On 15 September 2023 prop posted a notice that the server would be restarted to update the Immersive Aircraft and MCDiscordChat mods. ¹ Two days later the bridge bot announced “Stopping the server!” and the maintenance began. ²

Since he was sitting in the mod folder anyway, prop turned the downtime into a suggestion box. He told everyone to say now if they wanted a feature added, “only if the feature requested is reasonable”. ³ He floated a few Modrinth links of his own, with the Sit! mod as his “random example” of a good suggestion. ⁴ kira seconded it: “Add sit. That’s useful especially for cc.” ⁵

The verdicts

IRIS, speaking as a builder, pitched elytra trims, concrete and graves, and a way to keep armour stored with the elytra. prop’s rulings came fast. The chat suggests that Sit!, a concrete cauldron and a terracotta wrench made it in. Concrete he “can understand”, ⁶ but graves were “too op”, and a mod that was “too not vannilla” was out. The rest got a flat “absolutely not”. ⁷

IRIS then argued for chunk loaders, since loading chunks was “very easy becoz of bots”. prop was unmoved: “we have bots for that only”, and the idea was “trying to fix a problem that doesnt exist”. ⁸ The chat suggests he also repeated the rule that the server stays reachable only over the VPN.

It was a small afternoon, but it shows how prop ran Earth: a mostly vanilla world, with new mods only when they were useful and not too strong.
