“How Did We Get Here?” is the advancement that demands every beneficial and harmful status effect at once, and in August 2022 Emperor Sian and ntize (as _eb) set out to get it. They planned each step: haul a shulker home, shoot spectral arrows, and collect the effects one by one, namely Hero of the Village, Bad Omen, Mining Fatigue, Darkness and Dolphin’s Grace. Sian’s raid farm (Sian's Raid Farm) was part of the setting. 1
Hero of the Village fell first: on 15 August the server logged that _eb had completed the challenge. 2 Others went more slowly. A creeper killed an earlier shulker along the way, forcing a second haul (compare The Shulker Died).
Then came the dolphin. On 21 August Sian reported the damage: “I did 3 attempts today and all 3 failed bc of dolphin”. 3 By 12 September he had the diagnosis, if not the fix: “The dolphin either dies or simply doesn’t give the effect”. 4
The grind belongs to the wider Advancement Hunting streak of Season 2, and shows how that streak really worked: long stretches of preparation, a lot of small disasters, and a very specific kind of pride when the final effect finally landed.
