How Necro SMP Season 2 climbed the Mekanism tech tree, from steel and wind generators to the Digital Miner and spawner-carrying cardboard boxes.

The Forge 1.16.5 server of 2021 (launched on 2021-05-22) was built around Mekanism. New players were handed the Mekanism Getting Started wiki and a video series that ran from ore doubling up to the Digital Miner. 1 2 Fili added another tutorial, recommending it after prop’s. 3

The ladder went like this:

  • Steel: coal and iron in the infuser, enriched into steel dust, then smelted. 4
  • Wind generators, which cost gold (“dude necro i need 6 gold for wind gen”). 5
  • Ore doubling, which the server soon had. 6 7
  • Steel armour, “almost as powerful as diamond”. 8
  • The Digital Miner: “OP af i can get any ore anywhere on demand”. 9

prop was proudest of the first Ultimate machine on the server. 10 Refined obsidian armour and a fission reactor were the next goals.

There was one more discovery: Mekanism cardboard boxes can pick up mob spawners. Prop immediately announced “ima make an ultra op spider farm”. 11 12
