Axolotl SMP Season 1 launched with a governing philosophy that fit in one sentence. kira put it to the new players in July 2021: “this season, no rules ie; we ain’t imposing rules. If the rest of the people feel it’s wrong person is punished. Also we can overrule” 1. He was hoping the players “ain’t anarchists”, because if they were, “then we will have some basic rules” 2.
In practice the policy came down to judgement. Months later kira reminded a player that “there aern’t any rules on this server” and that “its up to me and prop to decide if what you did was bannable” 3 4. IRIS’s reply was a short “i PREFER RULES xd” 5. Telling Fili the same thing in July, kira said the decider “can be me, prop or both of us or the entire server” 6 7. The practical exceptions were few and firm: duping, including the anvil dupe, got you banned 8. Roleplay was explicitly fine, “as long as you don’t disturb or cause problems to people who are not involved” 9.
The admins also gave up their own perks. In November kira showed that even op on the server only allowed viewing logs, so “everybody can use only same commands” 10 11. And when someone asked why there was no suggestions channel, the answer was the policy in miniature:
because its dictatorship, you ask we decide
