Abi's Funeral

The Axolotl SMP’s first organised event was a funeral. After abi “died” in the server’s lore, prop scheduled a Discord event, posted teaser screenshots, and told everyone not to touch “the thing in the screenshot” beforehand. ^{1 2}

On 18 December 2021 about eight players gathered at Veteran Base, on a server so laggy it ran at 3 TPS, with voice chat on Discord and prop recording. ³ The dress code was tuxedos from a black shulker box, and the props were a coffin, a sealed will and a Dream SMP style script. Colours were handed out: kira green, nYx violet, DeathHack127 aqua, Saitama royal blue and GrimWatch red. People posed for a shaders photo and spammed F. ⁴ GrimWatch’s verdict on the opening silence was “peak cringe”. ⁵

The comedy came from the will. prop had asked DeathHack127 to run a mock auction of it, like an auctioneer, but he ran off with it instead, demanding diamonds to give it back. ^{6 7} In the background Saitama shouted “MY SEEEAAATTT” while prop tried to kill DeathHack127. ⁸ abi’s horse was also killed with a netherite sword, and he complained about it later: “u killed my horse”. ⁹

The edited video, “We had a funeral in Minecraft”, came out on Christmas Day. ¹⁰ The day after the funeral, kira posted a screenshot of a build captioned “part of history now” and said it would not be rebuilt, which the chat suggests was linked to the funeral. ¹¹ The borrowed suits never all came back, and prop kept the rest safe “for any other events we have on the server”. ¹²

The chat noted that one friend was travelling and missed it, and the group said a more peaceful second funeral might follow.
