The Scramble for Earth

From launch day, the players staked their claims on real-world countries by posting map screenshots, from Japan to Antarctica.

Event ASMP Earth 20 Jun 2023 – 10 Aug 2023

ASMP Earth was a map of the real planet, so the first question on launch day (see ASMP Earth Launches) was obvious: which country is yours? In the claim-maps channel, players answered by posting screenshots with their borders drawn on.

nYx went first on 20 June 2023, “claiming this area (basically whole of japan)” 1, and added Taiwan.

Two days later prop took a whole continent, “claiming antartica entirely” 2.

The rest of the map filled up over the summer. kira took the USA and the Bermuda Triangle (and, on 23 July, announced he was forfeiting control over Mexico “to not squat on too much land” 3). Snake and Mero claimed Korea, Mero also New Zealand, Rk Indonesia, Kart Greenland and Iceland, and IRIS South Africa and Madagascar. The claiming carried on until 10 August.

Not everyone was thrilled by the land grab. prop grumbled that some of the claimants “didnt even fucking join the server” 4. The rules that governed all this are in ASMP Earth Ground Rules, and the world’s shape is covered in Earth Map Geography.
