Steve the Bot

Steve was never a person, but he spent Season 1 as one of its most famous residents. He was a fake player spawned with the Carpet mod (./player Steve spawn), ¹ left AFK at farms to keep chunks loaded.

He confused newcomers. When Kart ran !online and saw him in the list: “STEVE?!” ² A few days later Suresh asked: “who tf is steve”. ³

Steve worked at the creeper, witch and wither skeleton farms (his friend Alex covered the wool farm). prop reported “steve alone online and creeper farm running” and “alex is afk near wool farm”. ⁴ Suresh liked how he talked about Steve “as if he exists irl”. Loading chunks wasn’t a cure for everything: “i thought having steve loading the entire farm’s chunks loaded would prevent it but nah”. ⁵ nYx observed that “steve ma boi is handsome to attract so many fucks”. ⁶

At first the rules were strict. When prop asked kira whether AFKing in the lava farm with the bot was allowed, ⁷ prop later added that “only i and kira have op”, so only they could summon or remove him. ⁸ That ended on 26 October: kira, announcing “im killing steve”, ⁹ opened the permissions so that “now anybody can summon and kill bots”. ¹⁰

The bot’s best-known failure is Steve the Bot and the Lava Farm, and the cull is in Special Fireworks and the Steve Massacre. Not to be confused with Kart’s pet Steven, or Steve the polar bear. See also Steve.
