The city lies deep under a large mountain near spawn. prop had worked out that “there is an ancient city right under it” 1 and called it “the closest ancient city” 2; the mountain was one the group had claimed “together as an alliance” 3. They camped on top (see Warden Camp) and tunnelled down.
It was a deepslate maze thick with sculk shriekers, a lava pool, and a central portal statue ringed by three of them 4. The explorers laid white and pink wool and carpet to mark safe paths and bridges, and the result looks, as prop put it, like “what explroing the ancient looks like” 5.
The city was cleared during the Conquest of the Ancient City on 9 July 2022. Afterwards about 98 percent of it was looted. The group left a few chests and some shriekers in a connected cave outside, and exited around 268 ~ 472 6. The last chest prop opened got a caption of its own: “shit chest” 7.
The ownership question started the next day. prop said, “i would like to claim the ancient city we explored for mega base purposes” 8, and ntize wanted a farm there and wondered about compensation for the others 9. By August prop had changed his plans, calling dibs on the first city for a Warden research facility 10, and Sian agreed on one condition: “As long as you have no problem with me building a water elevator to get a warden you can claim the city” 11.
